Highlights of the May Meeting

Diane Jones, outgoing president of the Guild, inspired all in attendance with her presentation on Camera-Ready Calligraphy in Photoshop. Diane showed in detail how she creates cards and wedding invitations by hand and then uses Photoshop to turn them into high resolution digital files. Producing the art digitally is not only faster and more accurate, but less expensive and void of chemicals such as spray mount and wax. Diane creates all the calligraphy by hand but then scans and builds the actual invitation or card in Photoshop, creates a pdf proof to send to the client, and then a final clean digital file to send to the printer.

Rose Wathen is serving as newsletter editor, and Carol Dauer has agreed to serve as guild librarian.

Upcoming events include Timothy Botts flourishing workshop and the first annual guild retreat.

The next meeting will be September 13, 2008, at Plaza Artist Materials in Nashville.

Dues

Remember that dues of $20 per year for regular members and $30 for contributing members are now due. If you did not pay dues at the May meeting, you may pay them prior to the September meeting by mailing them to Kate Page, Treasurer.

About the Guild

The Nashville Calligrapher's Guild was formed in 1981 to foster the continued study, practice, and use of calligraphy among its members and to encourage community awareness of the art of calligraphy. To this end, the Guild meets five times a year, publishes a newsletter, and sponsors workshops and related activities.

Membership is open to anyone interested in calligraphy. Dues are $20 per year for a regular membership, $30 a year for a contributing membership. Membership inquiries and dues should be directed to:

The Guild meets at the Plaza Arts Store in downtown Nashville, 633 Middleton Avenue, Nashville, TN 37203. Meetings are held the second Saturday in September, November, January, March, and May. Meetings begin at 10:30 a.m. with social time immediately before at 10:00 a.m.
